They are known as midget cars, sprint cars, or dwarf cars depending on where you are. Nonetheless, they are small race cars with very high torque and typically four cylinder engines. Even though their name denotes small stature, they are fully capable of being big on excitement and have been driven by some of the biggest names in racing.
On average, these machines have 300 to 350 horsepower, which is big power for a small body. The high power and small size of the cars combine to make midget racing quite dangerous; for this reason, modern midget cars are fully equipped with roll cages and other safety features. They are intended to be driven for races of relatively short distances, usually 2.5 to 25 miles.
