Midget Car Racing History

History

Midget car racing or sprint car racing was born on August 10, 1933 in Los Angeles at Loyola High School Stadium.  They hosted a weekly racing program under the control of an officiating group known as MARA or the Midget Auto Racing Association.  The popularity of the sport spread like wildfire across the nation and eventually around the globe.  It was popularized in Australia during 1934 and in 1937  it hit the country of New Zealand.. When the purpose built speedway at Gilmore Stadium was completed, racing ended at the school stadium, and hundreds of tracks began to spring up across the United States.
