2003 Sportsman Rookie of the Year Battle Should Be Interesting

Crest Hil, IL -
The Sportsman meeting hosted at least two of the Sportsman Rookie of the Year candidates. Mike Slabenak, Jr., son of the long time stock car racer Mike Slabenak, Sr., and Lamont Critchett, brother of 2002 champion Loran Critchett, Jr. will do battle in 2003.

The slabenaks have purchased the Jerry Murphy #5 Pontiac driven by Sean Murphy in recent years with great success. Loran will be Lamont's car owner, campaigning the car Loran ran in the National Division some years back.

Why will this be such and interesting battle? Because both of these drivers come to us with national titles! Because both of these drivers come to us with national titles!

Lamont as the sprint kart, Mike as the oval kart Valvoline National Champion. Although these two were often at the same events, they seldom ran in the same classes.

Add to the mix, Mike Adams, Jr. from Wisconsin in a new car being put together by Bob Shreffler, and the Joe Alberts crew. You can be assured we will have a fun time following these guys and who knows who else in 2003!
